Day 1
|
Dushanbe-Kulob-Kalai-Khumb.
From Dushanbe we will drive to Norak reservoir, one of the largest artificial lakes in Tajikistan. On the way visit of Hulbuk Fortress. Continue by south road towards Kalai-Khumb, first region of Pamir. The more conservative attitudes of this region can be seen in the local style of dresses and beards, but the hospitality is just as welcoming.
Over a mountain pass to Kalai-Khumb and the scenery and people change again. Here the people are Badakhshan – not Tajiks but a number of separate tribal groups. Beautiful landscape and view of snow peaks on opposite side- “Afghanistan”.

Day 2

Kalai-Khumb-Khorog
Continue by road from Kalai-Khumb to Khorog, the capital of Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Oblast (GBAO). From Kalai-Khumb, the road joins the river Panj, which forms Tajikistan’s border with Afghanistan. This is a fascinating drive. On the Tajik side of the river, the road is asphalted and buildings have electricity and are constructed using metal and glass. On the Afghan side – only about 100 m distant – the road is a donkey track and buildings are mud and wood. Overnight in hotel |

Khorog- Bachor
In the morning from Khorog drive over Gunt valley to the village Bachor. Once again, the landscape and people change as we slowly go higher into the Pamir High Plato. We have left behind the lush valley of the Wakhan and the Pamir tribe

Bachor village, start trekking.

Trekking Day — Bulunkul
Today final trek day in Central Pamir Mountains, we will walk to the lake Yashilkul, meet with cars and drive to Bulunkul village. Distance 8-9 km. takes 4-5 h. Altitude (from4270m down to-3700m)

Bulunkul – Langar — Yamg
From Bulunkul drive to Wakhan valley, over pass Khar-Gush, via villages Langar, Hissar, Zong and Vrang. Dist. 220 km takes 5-6 h

Yamg – Khorog
Today continue explore Wakhan valley. Visit Yamchun fortress. It is the main notable fortification built in Wakhan to secure Western Pamirs in “Silk Road” time. Drive to Yamchun and walk along a ridge to see the Zoroastrian “Fortress of Fire Worshippers”. Further up the hillside is the hot springs at Bibi Fatima. It is possible to take a natural steam bath in a rocky cave. Final driving to Khorog.

Day 14 |
Khorog – Kalaihumb
In the morning we will start our driving to Kalai-Khumb. On your way drive along the Panj River, enjoy the spectacular view of mountains; through the river see the way of life in Afghan side. From Khorog, the road joins the river Panj, which forms natural Tajikistan border with Afghanistan. This is a fascinating drive. On the Tajik side of the river, the road is asphalted and buildings have electricity and are constructed using metal and glass. On the Afghan side – only about 100 m distant – the road is a donkey track and buildings are built of mud and wood. Distance 260 km. Takes 7-8 h

Day 15 |
Kalaihumb – Tavildara – Dushanbe
We will drive through Sagirdasht Pass (Khaburabad). Beautiful landscape and view of snow peaks and several passes. Stop in several villages to introduce with local life. Here the people are Badakhshan – not Tajiks but a number of separate tribal groups, each with their own language. Unlike their Sunni neighbors, the Badakhshanis are Ismaili, followers of the Aga Khan. Attitudes and dress are a little more liberal in Badakhshan Distance 310 km. Takes 8-9 h
