Day Itinerary
Day 1 Oybek – Khujand

Meeting guests at the Uzbek-Tajik border Oybek. (recommended time 09-30 AM)

Driving to Khujand. Khujand was continuously occupied for 2500 years and found – possibly on the site of an earlier settlement – by Alexander the Great. It is the furthest point he reached in Central Asia thus the city was named Alexandria Eschate (Alexandria the Furthest).

During city tour in Khujand you will be able to visit:

—          Pushkin square with Kamoli Khudjandi Square

—          Timur Malik’s fortress and Sugd museum

—          Muslihiddin memorial complex

—          Panjshanbe bazaar (The name Panjshanbe comes from Persian language meaning “Thursday”. Panjshanbe is considered as one of the oldest markets in Tajikistan.)

Day 2 Khujand – Istaravshan – Penjikent

Driving to Penjikent through Istaravshan town (ancient name-Kiropolis). Istaravshan is one of the most ancient cities of Tajikistan, known as Ura-Tyube during USSR period. Located in the northern foothills of the Turkistan mountain range, 78 kilometers southwest of Khudjand, Istaravshan is one of the oldest cities in Tajikistan, having existed for more than 2500 years. In this small city you will be able to visit Mazori Sharif mausoleum, Kog Gumbaz madrasa (16 century) and Kuhi Mug, the ruins of ancient fortress. After visiting Istaravshan drive to Penjikent — a city in the Sughd province of Tajikistan on Zeravshan River. It was once an ancient town in Sogdiana. The ruins of the old town are on the outskirts of the modern city.

Day 3 Penjikent – 7 Lakes(Marguzor) – Jarteppa(Samarkand)

Driving to Marguzor. On the western edge of the Fan Mountains in the valley of the river Shing are seven lakes, six of them dammed origin, besides the lake Hazorchashma. Lake called Marguzor, but each of the lakes has its own name: Nezhigon (other references Mizhgon), Soybean, Gushor, Nofin, Hurdak, Marguzor, Hazorchashma. They are also often referred to simply by the numbers, starting from the bottom of the lake: the first — Nezhigon second — Soy third Gushor etc. The difference in level between the upper and lower lake — 692 meters. Drive back to Penjikent.

After will visit Sarazm. The Sarazm include in UNESCO World Heritage.  The archaeological excavations — a walled inter-city which stood 5000-years ago. Today, only ruins are left owing to the fact that the main construction material was clay-bricks.

After drive to Jarteppa border, after border crossing, continue to Samarkand.
